Dr. Ryan Lewis, ND

Providing patients like you with comprehensive, sustainable and exceptional health solutions, so they regain control and take charge of their health.

Dedicated Naturopathic Physician

I am a licensed and board certified Naturopathic Doctor in the province of British Columbia. My training and experience as a naturopathic doctor has allowed me to become well versed at helping patients like you navigate their health concerns, in order for them to achieve their health and wellness goals. In my practice, I strive to deliver excellence in care to all my patients, which is why I am not afraid to go above and beyond to get the job done.

Mission Statement

It is my mission to see my patients regain control of their health so they get back to doing the things they love. I do this by providing them with comprehensive, sustainable and exceptional solutions to their health concerns. It is my belief that having a more vibrant health does not have to feel like an elusive goal. By empowering patients with the knowledge, skills and tools they need to become equal partners and active participants in their healthcare, I show them how this is attainable.

Teacher to my patients

The best doctors see it as their duty to teach their patients and have both the patience and skill to explain the complex in clear language. As a naturopathic physician, an important part of what I do is encourage my patients to take personal responsibility for their health and educate them on making smart choices with regards to their health and wellbeing. By working with me you will not only have the root cause of your health concerns addressed but you will also learn how to implement the changes needed to sustain a healthier lifestyle.

What I do

Naturopathic physicians treat disease by restoring health. This is the value of naturopathic medicine in our society. It offers a fundamentally different approach, one based on the restoration of health rather than simply the treatment of pathology. By identifying and reducing the disturbances causing imbalances and impeding health, while strengthening or supporting the body's physiological functions, the reversal of illness can more likely be achieved and health can be reinstated/restored. My efforts are focused on understanding the unique needs of each patient. As a result, the treatments that I recommend are highly individualized and patient-centered. Furthermore, my patients are encouraged to get involved in their treatment programs and learn how to make effective and educated self-care decisions, which can help to prevent future health problems. In my practice I treat a variety of conditions including: diabetes, cardiovascular disease, weight challenges, and digestive concerns like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Clinical Nutrition – Food First!

Naturopathic physicians understand that diet is the basis for health. For this reason, adopting a healthy diet is often the first step towards correcting health problems. If the diet is not correct, if digestion is not appropriate, and if nutrition is not adequate, the patient cannot maximally improve. By implementing a diet suited towards addressing each individual patient's health concerns, the symptomatic consequences of an inappropriate diet (i.e. gas, bloating, constipation, inflammation) can be reduced and optimal nutrition can be achieved.

Health Psychology, Lifestyle Counseling and Stress Management

Our mental attitudes and emotional states can be important elements in healing and disease. Naturopathic practitioners are trained in counseling and stress management and we also tend to environmental and lifestyle factors that affect our patients’ health.

Physical Medicine

This consists of soft tissue work (including therapeutic massage); naturopathic manipulation of bone, muscle or the spine; hydrotherapy techniques; gentle electrical impulses, ultrasound, diathermy, and exercise therapy.

Botanical Medicine

Plants have powerful healing properties. In fact, the use of plants for healing dates back to the beginning of civilization and many pharmaceutical drugs have their origins in plant substances. Naturopaths use plant substances for both their healing effects and nutritional value. This may be in the form of teas, tinctures or capsules.

Traditional Chinese Medicine

Based on balancing the flow of chi (energy) through meridian pathways under the skin, Oriental medicine includes Oriental herbs, acupuncture and acupressure to regulate and release chi in order to bring the body back into balance.

Homeopathic Medicine

The gentle yet effective system of medicine is more than 200 years old and is based on the principle that “Like cures Like”. Homeopathic medicines are very dilute doses of natural substances that can stimulate the body’s vital force and strengthen its self-healing response.
